Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?

What each one does, and why most growing businesses use both.

A Google Business Profile is the free listing that shows your business on Google Maps and on the right of Google search, with your hours, phone number, photos and reviews. If you do not have one, make one first — it is free and it matters for local customers.

What the profile is good at

  • Being found by people nearby who search for what you do.
  • Showing reviews, opening hours and directions.
  • A quick call, or a chat on WhatsApp.

What it cannot do

  • Show your full range of products or services, with prices, sizes or specifications.
  • Take an enquiry with the details you need, an order from a dealer, or a payment.
  • Belong to you. Google decides how the listing looks and what appears beside it, often your competitors.

How they work together

Your profile brings people in; your website is where they decide. Link your website from your profile, and use exactly the same business name, address and phone number on both, so Google knows they are the same business.

On BrandRafter you add your Google profile link in Settings › Business details, and every page of your site tells search engines that the two belong together.

Common questions

Ask us
Is a Google Business Profile free?

Yes. You create it at business.google.com.

Which should I make first?

The Google Business Profile — it is free and quick. Then add a website and link the two.

Will my website show on Google Maps?

Your Google Business Profile shows on Maps. Linking your website from it, and using the same details on both, helps Google treat them as one business.
